Michael Havens, Beloved Community Member and Devoted Church Volunteer, Passes Away After Health Complications in San Diego, CA

Michael Havens, a longtime parishioner and altar server at Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on April 19th after facing ongoing health challenges since birth.

Michael had endured congenital heart issues, multiple strokes, a heart attack, Bell's palsy, severe diabetes, limited mobility, and both hearing and vision impairments. Recently, he underwent a scheduled angioplasty, but complications during the procedure led to a rapid decline in his health. Despite the dedicated care of his medical team, Michael passed away three days later, surrounded by close friends.

Known for his gentle spirit and humble nature, Michael never sought attention for himself and consistently offered kindness to those around him. His friends and church community remember him as a devoted and compassionate presence in their lives.

Social media comments reflected the depth of the loss. One friend wrote, "Michael was a true light in our lives. His kindness and dedication will never be forgotten." Another added, "We are heartbroken, but grateful for the love and care he shared with everyone around him."

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by his friends Bruce and Angie Bitsko to assist with burial and funeral expenses. Further details about memorial services will be shared by the family when finalized.
